Ubuntu is one of many Linux-based operating system, and I've used it about 3 years. Its growth is so fast. Releases twice a year, with the 04 code for April release  and 10 for a release in October. Currently, the latest version is 12.10, 13.04 version will be released next month. There are so many changes in terms of both appearance to its features with first Ubuntu that i use.

The many changes in Ubuntu, sometimes I prefer to use the old features than the new. Maybe not only me feel this. I want to share the old features that I use on Ubuntu 12.04, its Synaptic Package Manager & Gdebi Package Manager.

Ubuntu Software Center

Ubuntu software center is an application that contains a list of applications that can be installed on Ubuntu. So we do not need to look at the website to get the Ubuntu applications. Even so, sometimes the applications in Ubuntu Software Center is an application obsolete. Like Blender. Release version on the official website is version 2.66, but in the new Ubuntu Software Center version 2.62. Applications in Ubuntu Software Center not too update on applications that are not built in during installation. So we need a ppa of the software to get aplication up to date.

Ubuntu Software center more attractive than its predecessor the Synaptic Package Manager. It comes with the software and the ease of navigation icons by software category. In addition the software has paid too, so we can simply buy applications and content using the Ubuntu Software Center.

With a better GUI, we can easily search for software by category. Unlike its predecessor which is less user friendly for the search software, especially for new users.

It is advisable not to install a lot of software using the Ubuntu Software Center, a growing number of waiting lists in the install process will make this application freez and not responding. It could be that the installation is not finished making us to reinstall the applications installed package as damaged.

Ubuntu Software Center also replace the function of GDebi Package Installer. An application that used view and install ubuntu software that uses *. deb. With a double click on the file to deb format, by default Ubuntu Software Center will execute a long load time.

Synaptic Package Manager

It is the predecessor of the Ubuntu Software Center application that is less attractive. Contains a list of applications in the form of text with no pictures icon application, but it is also a lot of scattered library when we search an application. It's enough to make me confused when first using Ubuntu Karmic Koala.

However, with this application I could know more about the applications and libraries for the application I was looking for. Not infrequently I find an application that is worth trying. Unlike the Ubuntu Software Center crashes when creating a waiting list for many applications install. With the synaptic package manager I have never experienced freez when install a lot of software at once. So that could be left out rather than wait for the download + install blank finish: D.

GDebi Package Installer

A simple application that works without a lot of the menu to see the package and install / install the application. Simple and fast, the word can represent GDebi. No need to wait long to install as it does in Ubuntu Software Center.

Therefore, until now I prefer to use the Synaptic Package Manager and Package Installer GDebi than the Ubuntu Software Center. Simple and fast. Everyone has its own experience with it.
