Link Object on Blender - Maybe many people still confused with link and append on Blender. If you still not understand, check it on Blender Wiki. Many friend asking me, how to linking object on Blender? Because after the call the link, the object appear but they can't move the object. So the position same with original object.

When you try to link, you must give attention to these things:

1. Object name that you will be linked, make sure that name can representation the object. For example chair, dont name it with Cube.003 or etc, change the name into MOD_Chair (maybe). It will help us to know what type object that we linking
2. Group name that you will be linked, same with the reason of first things. It will help us to linking an object.

I always using group to linking an object. Because if i don't use it, sometime i can't move the object like my friend problem. Maybe anyone there can give me why it's?

Save the file near with the file that will call the group with linking. Never change folder structure, because can't make broken link, so your object didn't appear. If you are using linking, i prefer to use project folder, maybe look like the picture below.

You can link obect with File > Link and select name group in your blend file that we create before.

After linking procecss, open File > External Data > Make All Path Relative, so you dont need update your folder link when work on other computer. But you must remember, don't change structure of files and folder

Backup with Free Online Data Storage - Have experienced data loss on the hard drive or flash? Whether it's because it was accidentally deleted or by virus? How does it feel?  Just imagine if the data is very important. what are you doing is the data lost and can't back to you?

I think backup files on cloud / internet is safe, because we do not need keep the hardware or storage media. Simply just sign up, upload and your data has been back up. I am started using this services at 2009. I use mediafire to save file that i share on internet such as ebook, tutorial, etc. With mediafire we can easily share files on the blog and anyone. Then we can know how many people download my files.

When I sign up, mediafire is a browser-based cloud storage. But now, mediafire also provides apps for mobile and desktop (BETA) is available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

With mediafire free service, we will automatically get 50 GB free storage capacity. Wait for what? Just register on Mediafire for FREE! And get the 50GB hard drive on the internet. Still less? You can add upgrade capacity for free when you signed up,50 GB is more than enough for me, My storage still under 1%.

Dropbox

Is one free data storage service in internet that based on browser, mobile and desktop. So we can access data from anywhere, when we can not access through the PC, we can use a smartphone to access it.

Capacity provided by the dropbox only 2GB. But it was more than enough for me. If you need more, please upgrade. You can upgrade capacity for free and paid.

I use dropbox for collaborative projects with friends who are separated by distance, As can be readily integrated with dropbox desktop, so I just put a file in the dropbox folder, the file will be automatically uploaded to the server. So we do not upload manualy with browser. And if we're friends change or add files to your dropbox folder distributed / shared with us, we will automatically download the file, and I know it is in our folder. Sleight of hand: D!

In addition we can also share the download link with anyone as long as we put the file in the public folder.

Install IBM Worklight on Eclipse - IBM Worklight is an plugin / adds on that can help you to create hybird apps using html5 and can run on many mobile platform like Android, iOS, Windows Phone, etc. I think it is same with phonegap but more professional.

On this post i want share how to install IBM Worklight on Eclipse that run on Ubuntu 12.10. Before do this tutorial, you must Install Eclipse 4.2.2 first. You need internet connection for installation, because I am using IBM Repository to install it.

• Open Eclipse 
• Help > Install New Software
• Add and fill the form
• Name: IBM Worklight (feel free to rename)
• Location: http://public.dhe.ibm.com/ibmdl/export/pub/software/mobile-solutions/worklight/wdeupdate/

• Next > wait dependencies checking. When finished you will get toolkit that you can install. Select all and next. Read the EULA first then install. You need to wait till downloading finish.
• After IBM Worklight instalation finished, restart eclipse dan you will get IBM Worklight menu on your eclipse like the picture below

Install Eclipse on Ubuntu - I have a mobile application project using IBM Worklight. A tools like phonegap (maybe) so we can develop an application using html5 and can use for many mobile operating system . So i decided to use Eclipse for IDE, because eclipse is an application from IBM too. I think it's compatible for this project.

Download eclipse 4.2.2 for working with IBM Worklight, because this earlier version doesn't supported. I know it from eclipse marketplace. On this post i will share how to install eclipse on Ubuntu manually, because if you are using Ubuntu Software Center you just get 3.8 version. After download eclipse 4.2.2, follow this step to install

Install Eclipse on Ubuntu

1. Make sure java has been installed in your Ubuntu
   

    java -version

2. Extract downloaded file. After that, move eclipse folder into /opt/ folder. i move eclipse folder from home with code below
   

    sudo mv eclipse /opt/ 

   
   You must using sudo, because you can't copy without root permission into /opt/
3. Make a desktop file to launch eclipse
   

   sudo gedit eclipse.dekstop

4. Write the code below
   

   [Desktop Entry]
   Name=Eclipse 
   Type=Application
   Exec=eclipse
   Terminal=false
   Icon=eclipse
   Comment=Integrated Development Environment
   NoDisplay=false
   Categories=Development;IDE;
   Name[en]=Eclipse

5. Install on unity with running this command on terminal
   

   desktop-file-install eclipse.dekstop

6. Make a link, so you can run in like other application
   

   cd /usr/local/bin
   ln -s /opt/eclipse/eclipse

[SOLVED] Blender User Preferences Crash on Windows - Many people that using windows maybe have the same problem with my friends. Why my Blender crash when open user preferences using File > User Preferences or with the shortcut Ctrl + Alt + U? My friend +Adhi Hargo say to me that problem not only for the user preferences but for all new window on Blender. It happend because intel vga driver. Just change the vga driver that you get from buying the hardware (not update from intel website). He just found this problem in intel VGA.

I have solution for open your user preferences if your Blender crash when open from file menu. After open Blender, you will get default Blender interface, then just change the window type like the image below, so you will get your user preferences. It not open user preferences in new window, but it open user preferences in the window that use for 3D view before. So, your Blender is not crash ;)

Group and Ungroup on Blender ~ Have you ever using link system on Blender? To get it simple you should make a group for many object in a blend file, such as Mesh, Armature, Material, etc. If you make it in a group you just need to call the group name to link the  all object in a group. It's simple than you link every object from a group. I will try to post how to create a group of object and ungroup a object.

There are many way to create a object group, but the way that i likes is using shortcut Ctrl + G. Before use the shortcut, you need to select all object that you want to add it in a group. If the object is joined in a group, the outline color of object will change to green. Dont forget to adding name in a group, it will help you when organize the object.

Ungroup use to eliminate object from the group, so we can cancel object in a group. To ungroup object from group, i didn't find the shortcut yet. So i am using object data to ungroup the object. Just remove the group name from object data, your object will remove from the group. If you still confuse how to ungroup the object, check the picture below.

If you know the shortcut to remove an object from the group, please notify me. Because i have search on blender search and google i didn't find the shortcut yet. I hope this Blender Tips and Trick helpful.

How to Setting VPN Client on Ubuntu - VPN means Virtual Private Network that can help you to hide your IP and location. So, hacker can't steal and sniff your personal identity or your financial data. With VPN you will be safe from security issues. Because many computer was infected by backdoor spyware that always sending private data to data center. So they collect and save your data that can used someday.

With VPN I can open the page that blocked from my ISP. So i am free to access everything on internet.  Be freedom in internet. Today, I am using Ubuntu 12.10, and on this post i will try to write how to setting up VPN on Ubuntu.

Search the VPN service, you can choose free vpn or premium vpn. After that you will gate administrative data about the VPN like gateway, username, and password. After get it, open your network manager and create new vpn connection (Point-to-Point Tunneling  Protocol (PPTP). Input the data from VPN (gateway, username, password) like this.

Select Advance, and activate the Point-to-Point Tunneling  Protocol (MPPE) like the image below.

After do that, connect to the internet first and then connect to VPN. So you will browse internet from VPN.

Have you ever got this error message "Cannot Access PPA (ppa url) to get PPA Information, please check your internet connection"? But in the same time we can browsing some webpage and download files. Why we can't acces the ppa? After search on the forum i get the answer, it's because of what we type in terminal

For example in the screenshot below is

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:irie/Blender

We need to change all letters to lowercase, so we can add the ppa repository in our machine. The code look like this

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:irie/blender

After change all letters into loweracase, the ppa can be added

My brother has a tv tuner that has not been used. Now, i try to use it in Ubuntu 12.10. I try to search linux driver on hardware website but i am not found the driver. But i found an ubuntu package that can use for watching tv, the package called tvtime. To install this package just run

sudo apt-get install tvtime

Although there are a tvtime package, but the application does not run so well for my gadmei. I think because it was too old, about 5 years ago. There are a few things I do to fix the application to be compatible with the hardware I have. The problems that I experienced after the installation is

TVTIME not detect the video source from Gadmei. By default, tvtime detect video source such as a webcam on the laptop. We can figure out the problem by running tvtime in a terminal. Would appear an error message like this

videoinput: Can't get tuner info: Inappropriate ioctl for device
    Your capture card driver: uvcvideo [Laptop_Integrated_Webcam_2HDM/usb-0000:00:1a.0-1.4/19
    does not support full size studio-quality images required by tvtime.
    This is true for many low-quality webcams.  Please select a
    different video device for tvtime to use with the command line
    option --device.

To fix this, go sourcelist of tvtime in the folder / etc by running the command

 sudo gedit /etc/tvtime.xml 

search for code below

 <option name="V4LDevice" value="/dev/video0"/>

Change the video0 to video1 so the code will be look like this

Before start watching we need to scan the tv frequency on our location :D. So we can save the frequency of  tv station in our area. To scan tv frequency, run this command to terminal

After that just rung tvtime and you will can watch television in your ubuntu desktop.

Already feel how extraordinary Blender? With this post I want to share one of the features of Blender, i called drag and drop feature, a feature that is used to attach the file from windows explorer / nautilus to software. Actually, this feature has been around a long time, I first know from budip blog. But I was not successful to do it, I do not know why. But this time I've been able to use the feature.

With drag and drop. we will be easy to add a background image in Blender. We don't need to open properties first. Just click and drag the image into the 3D window, the picture will automatically turn into the background. To see it we should be in orthogonal / orthographic view (numpad 5).

It is also very useful for video editing, we simply drag and drop video files / audio / image, it will directly into  video / images and audio strip. Interesting is not it? For those who are still confused to immediately try on the latest Blender. Here's a video demo and a little explanation of drag and drop in Blender.

Gimp is a image processing software such as Photoshop. Its function is not much different. You can make it for photo editing, croping and giving effect to the photo. In addition to the extensions that use XCF format, GIMP is one of the open source software that can be used in a variety of operating systems and FREE. With open source license, making GIMP has many useful plugins, one of which is the Save for Web.

Save for web plugin is used to reduce the size of an image with a reduction image quality. No need to worry about the origin of the image is not visible compression rate is not high, if the high compression rate of the image will be visible rupture / boxes. There are at least three ways you can do to reduce the size of images with this plugin. Here are 3 ways.

Changing Extension / Format Picture, commonly used to compress images of various formats such as PNG, BMP, etc. image formats with a smaller size such as jpeg, or gif PNG8. Indirectly it also affects the quality of the image.

Reducing the image quality, the smaller the image quality size small anyway. However, the compressed image will be broken and the boxes appear, default compression quality is 85%. Resize the image, is the safest way to reduce the size of the image. By reducing the image resolution, image dimensions will be smaller but the picture quality is not diminished. I always use this feature before uploading to the website. Because the website does not require great resolution. The important thing is legible enough.

For some people the size of the image file is trivial. Though sebenaranya this is important, because it affects the speed of access to the site. If only one or two pictures does not matter, but if you have dozens? Pretty damning is not it? Especially if uploadnya in hosting your own blog with a certain quota could cepet full disc. Tethering  allow us to use mobile phone as modem. There is definition of tethering from wikipedia:

Tethering refers to connecting one device to another. In the context of mobile phones or Internet tablets, tethering allows sharing the Internet connection of the phone or tablet with other devices such as laptops. Connection of the phone or tablet with other devices can be done over wireless LAN (Wi-Fi), over Bluetooth or by physical connection using a cable for example, through USB.

How to Tethering on Android ICS Phone

To set tethering on Android ICS you just need to open settings, open more on wireless and networks. Choose tethering and portable hotspot. There is many option, i just select USB tethering that use data cable of mobile phone connected to laptop.

Why i choose using USB Tethering? Because with USB Tethering i can charge my mobile phone. Tethering will spend your battery quickly. So you need plug to power source

Once tethering is enabled we can not use the internet. Because the functions only connect the laptop to the phone. To enable the internet, enable bluetooth tethering. I do not know why it should activate both, a clear under existing bluetooth tethering posts
