3 Day Itinerary for Tokyo with JR Tokyo Wide Pass

Have plan trip to Tokyo this holiday season? After traveling arround Japan for 12 days i want share best budget itinerary for 3 day trips in Tokyo using 3 Day Tokyo Wide Pass. Any idea where you go with Tokyo Wide pass that worth 10000 Yen ? Here a list place that i've visited for free with this Tokyo Wide Pass.

About Tokyo Wide Pass

Tokyo Wide Pass is a magical ticket for me. You only need to pay 10.000 Yen to use unlimited ride arround Tokyo. Before buy Tokyo Wide Pass you need bring your foreigner pasport, because Japanese pasport can't buy this ticket. 


If you visit Japan in winter you can use it to access Shinkansen to Gala Yuzawa that worth about 6000 Yen one way. You need about 12000 Yen to return ticket. With Tokyo Wide Pass you only need to pay 10000 Yen, you can also using JR Train arround Tokyo. It will save your budget A LOTS!

3 Day Itinerary in Tokyo with Tokyo Wide Pass

I spent about 5 days in Tokyo, 2 Day in Tokyo using Tokyo Metro Subway Pass and 3 Day using Tokyo Wide pass. Read my old post to see 2 Day Itinerary in Tokyo with Tokyo metro subway, because on this post i only write about 3 Day Tokyo Itinerary with Tokyo Wide Pass.

Day 1 In Tokyo Kawaguchiko and Akihabara

First day with Tokyo Wide Pass you can enjoy Kawaguchiko near Fuji Mountain and try to enjoy night at homecafe Akihabara.

Enjoy Morning in Kawaguchiko

In the morning, just go to Shinjuku Station. I've reserve seat 3 days before for Chuo Line-Limited Express Azusa 55 for Matsumoto. If you dont book the seat before you only can sit at unreserved train. Its not big problem i think. 

Route From Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko

  • Chuo Line-Limited Express Azusa 55 for Matsumoto stop at di Otsuki Station
  • Move to Fujikyuko Line Fuji-Tozan-Densha 1 for Kawaguchiko on Otsuki Station
Its free for people who have Tokyo Wide Pass. Sometimes you can get good train like Fujisanview. But when i come, i just got an old train but i love it. I can saw local people going to work an school with this train. The ticket not sale on station, but a man with ticket machine walking arround the train to take ticket from the people.

When you come to Kawaguchiko you can buy ticket to go Kawaguchiko lake. Enjoy walking arround the lake and Mt. Fuji as the background of the lake is really beautifull. You can walking arround in one day.

If you want playing snow, please come arround December - January. I came on mid February the snow is gone.

After walking arround Kawaguchiko, i back to Tokyo and want enjoy saturday night at Akihabara. The place that popular with the anime. From Kawaguchiko Station i got Fujisan View Express, a train with clasic interior that i love!

Fujisan view express have route from Kawaguchiko Station to Otsuki. Its not stop on little station. Dont think about the ticket fare, because it was covered with Tokyo Wide Pass. Depart from Otsuki Station i go to Tokyo with Chuo Line-Limited Express Super Azusa and stop at Shinjuku Station.

My friend want to try Homecafe Akihabara. A local cafe with a servant who will with you for a hours in the cafe. Sound interesting. So let's go to the Homecafe.

Go To Akihabara from Shinjuku Station

  • Shinjuku St. : Chuo Line for Tokyo stop at Ochanomizu Station  (¥170)
  • Ochanomizu Station move to Chuo-Sobu Line(Local) for Tsudanuma (Platform 3) stop at Akihabara Station
  • Walking to Homecafe Akihabara.

I saw the poster in front of building. Then i saw that homecafe available on 3 - 5 floor. So we go with the elevator. But when i saw the queue is make me hopeless. Because the queue  is front front store till the emergency stairs. 

So we decide to move to another place. Because homecafe have a second store at different building. Maybe not many people know about this place. So i need queue about 4 people that takes time almost 1 hour.

No camera inside the cafe, so i keep my camera on bag and try to enjoy the cafe. Each people who came need to pay about 600 Yen and order at least one drink with price about 600 yen too. But my friend pay for me a package worth about 1800 Yen. It will give me a ticket with a glass of soda drink and a photo with the maid.

You can't taking picture with your camera, they use polaroid camera and you will got a small photo print with handwriting. You also get a member card that can will be  use for next entry. After many visit maybe you will get something, i dont know.

At least make sure you choose maid who can speak english. Because when the maid can't speak english they only came for a play and she leave you. She came with the handwritting papper with common english talk. When you say something i think they dont understand. I hope the maid can speak english later. 

You can also visiting popular anime place in Akihabara, such as AKB48 / Gundam Cafe or mandarake for anime shop.

Day 2 : Shibuya - Harajuku - Shinjuku

Day with JR Tokyo Wide Pass i spent day walking  arround central tokyo, visiting popular place such as Shibuya, Harajuku and Shinjuku. I am stay at Grids Akihabara Hostel. So, all route will be start at Akihabara Station. From Akihabara Station take  Yamanote Line Tokyo / Shinagawa (Clockwise). Platform 3 and stop at Shibuya Station

The popular place in Shibuya is the Crossing Street and also Hachiko Statue. Many people taking selfie with the hachiko statue not me. You can try crossing the street with a lots people arround there! Its will be great if you came in the night. Just like on Fast Furious Series Tokyo Drift!

You also can taking walk arround Supeinzaka, a place with small coffee shop and accessories shop that similiar with Spanyol. I dont know, but its just a small alley that only for walking. See the picture below

After walking arround Shibuya, you can go to Harajuku. Its next station  after shibuya if you go with Yamanote Line For Shibuya / Shinagawa (Counter-Clockwise) plaftorm 1.

Walking Arround Harajuku and Visit Meiji Shrine

I have Tokyo Wide Pass, so i decided to go Harajuku with train, not walking because its free :D. You will see crowd on a way next to Harajuku Station. Welcome to Takeshita Street at Harajuku!

Its shop center in Harajuku. You can buy some gift at daiso or enjoying crepes arround there. I have breakfast with Kebab there. about 500 Yen.

Kebab is very easiest halal food that you can found arround Tokyo! Almost available anywhere! After breakfast with the Kebab, start walking to Meiji Shrine. I just walking on the path, not go inside the garden because need to pay about 500 Yen.

After from Meiji Shrine, i go to Shinjuku Station, the biggest station in Tokyo. I have an appointment with my friend

Shinjuku Station and Tokyo Metropolitan Goverment Building

If you in Shinjuku Station, you can try to go Tokyo Metropolitan Goverment Building. Its similiar place with Tokyo Tower, because just an observatory deck where you can see Tokyo from the top. You need walking about 1km from Shinjuku Station on underground.

After enjoying moment in Tokyo Metropolitan Goverment Building, i start walking back to Shinjuku Station. Long time no see my high school friends. Its almost 3 years we dont meet. She studied doctor in Keio University. We just walking arround in Shinjuku and enjoy coffee on Starbuck after dramatic scene about an hour.

If you want to meet some friend, never try to make shinjuku station as meeting point except you and friends have been here before

In Shinjuku, you can also try Shinjuku Batting Center. Just try how good you in baseball! Its open from 10 Am - 4 Am! Only need to pay about 300 Yen for 22 ball throw. Want to try it?

Day 3 Echigo Yuzawa and Ghibli Museum 

The last day with JR Pass, you can go to Echigo Yuzawa and Ghibli Muesum.  You can playing sky and snow in Echigo Yuzawa during winter. I promise you will be have great moment in Ghibli Museum! Its a world class animation museum such as Disney!

Its first time i ride Shinkansen, the best and fast ever train i ever try! Start from Ueno Station to Echigo Yuzawa Station covered by Tokyo Wide Pass (normal fares about 6460 Yen one way). This train on winter  can cover till Gala Yuzawa, a popular sky resort in Japan.

But i decide to stop at Echigo Yuzawa, one station before Gala Yuzawa. Because you can enjoy snow there too! I walk to Yuzawa Kogan Ropeway,  rent a boot and try the ropeway to the top snow mountain.

Playing snow at the mountain with beautiful scenery that i never seen before! Its gorgeous! I can't describe the feel. Because its the first time for me :D

From Echigo Yuzawa, i take Shinkansen to Tokyo Station. Move to  JR Chuo Line for Ome and stop at Mitaka station. You can found Ghibli Museum Bus at bus stop no 9. A yellow bus with cute character is here! You can take one way ticket  210 Yen. But if you buy roundtrip ticket its just 320 Yen. You can't get the discount using pasmo or suica card, you must buy the ticket on the ticket machine at bus stop no 9.

Before going there, make sure that you have buy the ticket. Because its a miracle if you can buy ticket on the spot. For more information about ticket and opening hour, you can visit Official Ghibli Museum Website.
The Ghibli Museum is a portal to a storybook world. As the main character in a story, we ask that you experience the Museum space with your own eyes and senses, instead of through a camera's viewfinder. We ask that you make what you experienced in the Museum the special memory that you take home with you.
Its really worthed if you come here during stay in Tokyo! Its a MUST place to visit! You can enjoy a film, knowing how animation is made and gift shop.
