Add Background Image in Blender

One of the features of Blender that is very helpful in modeling is the background image. With background image we can do the modeling and see reference image at the same time. That way we can trace from reference image.

My friends often asking why background images will not appear in the 3D view. There are many parameters that are used to display the background image, one of which MUST display using Orthogonal view. Here's an explanation of the features that exist on the background image in Blender.

Background Image Axis

Features used to manage from the point of view of anywhere we can see the background. One of the things essential to display the image is bacgkround Ortho view. In the perspective view background image will not appear. To move the view point of view from ortho to perspective and vice versa is by pressing Numpad 5.

Sometimes we need a reference image showing front, side, top, etc.. We can set the image as needed. Say a reference image in which there is a front and side. We can add 2 background image with the same image. Where is the background of our first object position to look ahead while for the second we position the background object to a side. Setting the background position will be explained below.

Image or Movie Clip

Background image not only used for modeling, sometimes I use for video reference when creating an animation. To add the video as a background image just press tab movie clip.

Background Oppacity

Useful to thicken or attenuate background image. The greater the value, the picture will become clearer. Meanwhile, if the smaller the value, the image will become thin and transparent. Here's an example

Back and Front

It is the position of the background objects. If we select Back, there will be a background image behind the object. Whereas if we select Front, the background image will be in front of the object. These differences in choice of back and front



Stretch, Fit and Crop

Is a groundbreaking option from view camera images.
  • Stretch: Make a picture size of the camera viewpoint even though it enlarges the image and make the image background disproportionate
  • Fit: Creating an image is on the actual proportion, although at the upper right or there is a blank space.
  • Crop: Picture left to widen beyond the camera viewpoint.

X and Y Position

An option that is used to adjust the position of the image on the 3D view. It can be used to manage a variety of viewpoints on an object. so that when the position of the front view objects that are in front of the picture, and if the object is in the side view side image. X is the horizontal position, while Y is the vertical position.

Size

Option is used to set the size of the image size on the 3D View. However, adjust the size according to the needs and image resolution. Beware if the resolution of the picture of our little exaggerated, the image will appear broken.
